- "There are fates far worse than death. Strength in this life, happiness in the next. Remember who you are."
- ―Electra to Heron in A Monster is Born.
Electra was the former queen of Corinth and Princess of Mycenae and the wife of Periander. After years of abuse by her husband, a sequence of events involving being impregnated by Zeus and giving birth to twins, the later-turned Demon Seraphim and the hero Heron, she fled to a polis and hid there; with Heron from Hera, the wife of Zeus; who would kill her and her son if they were discovered.
History[]
Throughout the series[]
Season 1[]

A Call to Arms[]
Heron collects some ore, but manages to earn only two drachmas. As he returns to his mother, Electra, they hear noises and see Alexia, who informs them that she is looking for a demon.
Heron wants to leave, but his mother tells him they can't and tries to tell him who his birth father is. However, at that moment, people from the town come wanting to test if Electra is a demon. Heron starts fighting them, but as they overwhelm him, Electra burns her arm to prove she isn't a demon.
Past is Prologue[]
In Heron's dream, Electra gives birth to a boy. King Periander comes and is happy to see it's a boy and has his eyes. Ariana informs him a second child is coming, and it's another boy. She explains there are two placentas, which means there are two fathers. Seeing the boy having blue eyes, Periander is angry and attempts to kill the boy, but an eagle storms in and saves it.
Heron tells Electra that he had a dream in which she was a queen. Electra confirms she used to be married to King Periander, but they had to leave. She explains that the marriage was prearranged, and not long after she married the king, she caught a god's eye. She didn't know that, and one day, her husband was kind and loving as the god was turning into him, while the next day, he was cold and demeaning. She thought this was his temperament and despised one; but loved the other. She eventually realized that he was a different man, and upon questioning him, he revealed that he was Zeus.
But as Zeus reveals himself, Hera sees him, and Apollo warns him quickly and takes his place. But Hera remains suspicious and starts observing her. Upon learning that Electra is pregnant with Zeus's child, she visits the Oneiroi, telling them to appear in King Periander's dreams and tell him that he will have twins, one of which isn't his. Periander swore that he would kill the child if it weren't him, but Zeus came and saved him. He attempts to throw the child from the balcony. But Electra stops him and stabs him in the eye, causing him to fall and die. Zeus then teleports them elsewhere to save them from the guards and enshrouds the village in darkness so Hera can't see Electra and Heron.
Electra explains that if they leave the village, Hera will kill them and that his brother was supposed to inherit King Periander's throne but was killed by his uncle, Acrisius. Heron isn't happy, as Elias is more of a father to him than Zeus, but seeing Electra's expression, he realizes that Elias is Zeus. He gets even angrier, calling Zeus a coward for letting her live like that, but finds the sword Elias told him they would make and throws it in his anger.
The Raid[]
The demons are about to catch Alexia, and Zeus meddles, causing roses to grow and hide her. Seeing he interferes, Hera decides to do so as well and sends Alexia's cape towards Electra, making the demons go after her.
Seraphim finds Electra and asks her where Alexia is; however, Electra explains she doesn't know. Heron sees the demons surrounding his mother and rushes in but is easily beaten by Seraphim. Seeing the hatred in Heron's eyes, Seraphim tells him he has nothing left and will either join them or die and then kills Electra and takes Heron captive.
A Monster is Born[]
Alexia comes out from hiding and sees all the dead people. Elias, who holds Electra, tells her that the man she looks for is taken captive, and she leaves.
Hermes then takes Electra's soul and takes her to River Styx. As he blows the horn to call the Ferryman, Wraiths, who can't cross over, appear, but the Ferryman chases them away. He pays the Ferryman and tells him to treat her well, or thunder will fall upon him. Hermes asks Electra if there is someone she wants to see before she crosses over, and she states it's Heron. She appears before Heron, telling him that there are fates worse than death, and bids farewell.
Season 2[]
In Weights & Measures, Electra briefly appears as a vision during Seraphim's trial in the Underworld.
In Funeral Games, Ares says that he can't decide if he hates Electra more or Seraphim and insults Electra by denouncing her as a "whore" as well as holding the latter accountable for the recent civil war (ignoring his own mother's involvement).
In Judgement Day, when Zeus enters the Underworld, he meets Electra in the Elysian fields. After hugging him, Electra slaps him for not telling her that Seraphim was her son. Zeus admits his error before he is escorted to Hades.
Season 3[]
In Brothers' Journey, Hera visits Electra to ask her why Zeus fell in love with her. Electra admits she really doesn't know, as it's difficult to discern what a God thinks, but if she were to guess, it's because she treated him as he was and not king of the Gods. She tells Hera that while Zeus always appreciated her guidance and advice, he always wanted something more that she couldn't give him, but Electra did, which was to see him more as a person and not just a king.
In A Champion's Challenge, Electra reunites with Heron, and she reconciles with Seraphim, who was remorseful for killing her in the past.
Physical Appearance[]
Electra is an attractive, slender, bronze-skinned woman with medium-length dark brown hair. This is due to her poverty, as she could not afford to wash her hair if it were its natural length.
Personality[]
Electra is a kind and loving woman. She cares deeply for Heron, even going so far as to stab Periander in the eye to prevent him from killing Heron. After learning that Seraphim (her killer) was actually her firstborn son, Electra condemns Zeus for not informing her about the former's survival while she was still alive.
Appearances[]
Season 1[]
Season 2[]
- Funeral Games (Indirect Mention)
- Judgement Day
Season 3[]
Trivia[]
- Electra's marriage to King Periander was prearranged, presumably after he raided her kingdom and murdered her family.
- When Electra is killed, Zeus places two coins on their closed eyes. In Ancient Greek culture, coins were traditionally placed inside the deceased's mouth (usually under the tongue), not on their eyelids. The custom of placing coins on the eyelids of the dead is a much later practice and unrelated to the Greek belief that the coins would be used to pay for passage into the Underworld.
- Electra is a character unique to the series and is not based specifically on anyone in Greek mythology.
- Her story, however, is similar to several other Greek mythological women and has certain characteristics of a tragedy.
