Blood of Zeus Wiki

"But as the last titan fell, he swore a curse on the gods. And when his blood struck the sea... The giants were born."
Zeus telling Heron the origins of the giants in A Call to Arms.

The Giants are a supernatural race of creatures born from the blood of the last Titan to fall at the hands of the Gods of Olympus. They are a race of great strength and aggression. They were known for the Gigantomachy, their battle with the Olympians.

History[]

The Giants appear in two distinct forms in the series:

  • First generation: Born from Gaia and Uranus, these Giants are the brothers of the Titans. Fearing their power, Kronos banished them into the depths of the Earth.
  • Second generation: They emerged from the blood of the last fallen Titan, giving birth to a new lineage of Giants.

The second group of giants came later. When the world was new, the gods, the masters of light, defeated the Titans, the family of darkness. But as the last Titan fell, he swore a curse on the gods, and when his blood struck the sea, the giants were born. These monsters were brought into the world for a single purpose: to destroy the realm of the gods. A hellish war known as the Gigantomachy then begun. The gods swore to defeat the giants and rid them from the earth. Both gods and giants fell alike. Still, neither side would relent, and the two factions battled on endlessly, incapable of conquering the other. Until one day, Zeus convinced two of the giants to take up arms with the gods. Soon Zeus would lead one final attack. Zeus ordered Hermes to gather their souls while their remains were cast into the ocean, to be forever swallowed by the tides. The smithing god Hephaestus forged the grand automaton Talos to stand guard over the Cauldron, forever sworn to keep it shut so that this evil would never return.

The Creation of the Demons[]

As the ages passed, a terrible squall rustled the ocean floor, casting a dead giant ashore and as the Fates would have it, one of these dark vessels was discovered by Seraphim. Though he did not know it, this evil began poisoning him, for to even touch a giant is to feel the abyss. Feasting on the giant's flesh, Seraphim was transformed into a monstrous creature. Others were drawn to him, either willingly or by force. These men ceased to pay tribute to the gods. Instead, they pledged their allegiance to the giants and soon they began to eat of the giant as well. Through this black commune a new family of darkness arose. They became demons. Evil and wicked creatures hidden beneath a human veneer.

Throughout the Series[]

The Giants serve as the main antagonists of Season 1, first indirectly through the actions of their lesser kin, the Demons, and later on after being raised from the ocean floor by Hera after she has Seraphim retrieve the cauldron containing their souls so that they could work together to attack Olympus and kill their shared enemy, Zeus.

Biology and Abilities[]

Though each Giant had a different shape and powers, what they all shared in common was their enormous size and strength. Their flesh could transform a human who eats it into a demon.

Giant Physiology: Giants are creatures of incredible strength and stamina. Their unique physiology grants them superhuman power and abilities.

Immortality: The Giants are primitive beings. They are immortal by nature. However, this immortality does not make them invincible or immune to suffering. They have existed since before the fall of the Titans and were already present during Zeus's childhood.

Individual Powers: Each has unique powers, inspired by animals or natural phenomena — tentacles, spikes, laser attacks, tornadoes, armored shells, flight, venom.

Transformation: By consuming their flesh, giants can transform humans into demons.

Immense Strength: The Giants possess prodigious strength, capable of rivaling that of the gods.

Immense Speed: The Giants can run and move at speeds far superior to those of humans and equal to those of the gods.

Immense Durability: The Giants have superhuman endurance. They are immune to all diseases, ailments, and toxins.

Immense Stamina: The Giants' physiology allows them to resist fatigue even during prolonged exertion, enabling them to maintain their full power. They possess superhuman, almost unlimited stamina, matched only by that of gods and Titans.

Weaknesses[]

  • The Cauldron: Coupled with Hermes' armband, the Cauldron could both restore and take away the essences of the Giants.

Trivia[]

  • In Greek mythology, the Giants were created after the Titan, Kronos castrated his father Ouranos, with his blood creating their species.
  • Thus far, no Giant has orally spoken.
  • Several of the giants seem inspired by famous Greek monsters, such as the Cyclops, the Hecatoncheires, and Typhon.
    • The design for Brontes has a very spot on resemblance to the Cyclops from 7th Voyage of Sinbad, most notably the single horn and the goat lower half.
  • In the series the only two giants still alive are Brontes and Briares, because they betrayed their kin and allied themselves with the Olympians. Although not taking part to the battle for Olympus, they reappear in Season 2 to take part at the funeral of Zeus, in order to respect their late ally.
